Moniruzzaman Moni from Puthia (Rajshahi):
A new BNP office has been launched at Baneshwar in Puthia Upazila of Rajshahi district recently that creates controversy as none of the party’s top leaders knows the matter, they said.
Due to the absence of local leaders at its inaugural function, question has been raised about the real leadership and lack of coordination in the party men.
A section of local leaders and activists including the Union BNP convener Hazrat Ali and Member Secretary Abdul Majid have expressed concern over the incident.
On Thursday (July 31) last at around 4:00 pm, the ribbon was cut by late MP Advocate Nadim Mustafa’s son Julfar Nayeem Mustafa Bismoy to inaugurate the Baneshwar Union BNP office near the Baneshwar petrol pump. It is learnt that the announcement of the office inauguration was spread through some people at the lower level, but the Union BNP convener Hazrat Ali Sarkar and the member secretary were not informed about the matter.
Union BNP convener Hazrat Ali and Member Secretary Abdul Majid said, “None of us knew about the inauguration of this office. It was done without our opinion or permission. Such behavior is politically questionable.”
Union BNP convener Hazrat Ali Sarkar said, “This office was opened without my permission or knowledge. This is completely illegal and against party discipline.”
He also said, “If any extortion or unpleasant incident occurs in the name of this office, Union BNP will not take responsibility for it.” We strongly condemn and protest this illegal activity.”
Local BNP leader Alam Member said, “None of those who took the initiative to inaugurate are in the Union BNP committee. Even the one who led it, Matiur Rahman Moti, is just the convener of a market traders’ association. He does not hold any position in BNP.”
Local leaders strongly condemned and protested the unauthorized inauguration of the office and sought immediate party intervention in the matter.
Political analysts believe the incident is a clear reflection of the conflict and lack of coordination in the local BNP leadership. Confusion and anger have also spread among local leaders and activists.
