UP chairman shot in Rangamati

A local Union Parishad (UP) chairman sustained bullet injuries in a firing by a group of miscreants at Bilaichari upazila in Rangamati district on Tuesday night.

Atomang Marma, 51, chairman of Barathali Union Parishad, came under attack around 11pm on Tuesday at his uncle’s house.

According to locals, the victim went to his uncle’s house in the night. At that time, a group of armed miscreants attacked in the house and opened fire on him, leaving him critically injured.

He was rescued and taken to Ruma Sadar Upazila Health Complex where the physicians gave him primary treatment.

Dr Rubel, Resident Medical officer of the upazila health complex, said the victim was hit by two bullets and referred him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Confirming the matter, Bilaichari Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Akter Hossain said they were informed about the matter, but could not reach there in the night as the spot is situated in an inaccessible area.

Efforts are on e to identify the miscreants and legal actions would be taken in this regard, added the OC.
