A Dhaka court is set to deliver the verdict on Thursday in the corruption case against influential contractor Golam Kibria Shamim, widely known as GK Shamim, and his mother, Ayesha Akhter, over illegally acquired wealth.
Judge Md Rabiul Alam of Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-4 will pronounce the judgment.
The court set the verdict date after hearing arguments from both the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the defence on January 22.
The ACC’s Deputy Director Md Salahuddin filed the case on October 21, 2019, at the ACC’s Integrated District Office-1, accusing them of amassing Tk297.89 crore in illegal wealth.
The charge sheet was submitted to the court on January 17, 2021.
The trial officially began on October 18, 2022, after the court framed charges against the accused.
