Visible changes must be ensured as per PM’s instructions: State Minister for Local Government

All city corporation administrators have been appointed on the basis of merit and they will reflect that merit properly in performing their respective duties, said State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam.

He said this while addressing as chief guest at the progress review meeting of the developmental activities of city corporations held at the hall room of the Local Government Department on Wednesday.

He urged the administrators to establish closer contact with the people.

Addressing the administrators, the State Minister said, “You have to be more responsible. You have to visit your respective cities, go to the people and listen to them. You have to ensure visible changes as per the Prime Minister’s instructions.”

Shahe Alam said, “We have to make maximum preparations to reach the desired services to the people. He assured that the ministry would ensure all kinds of administrative and technical support for the overall activities and project implementation of the city corporations.”

Emphasizing on regular monitoring after taking up the project, he also advised the city corporations to take up WASA projects according to the needs and demands. He directed to make the projects more dynamic by eliminating all kinds of legal complications and filling vacant posts quickly.

In the meeting, the administrators of the nine city corporations – Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Barisal, Gazipur, Comilla, Rangpur, Narayanganj and Mymensingh – highlighted the progress of the ongoing projects of their respective departments and the existing challenges. Directing close supervision of the activities at the field level, the State Minister said that more caution should be exercised in verifying the feasibility of the projects so that no complications arise later. He called for speeding up the implementation of the projects through quick identification of challenges and coordinated initiatives and laid special emphasis on ensuring that the work of any project is not disrupted due to the energy crisis.

The meeting, chaired by Md. Shahidul Hasan, Secretary of the Local Government Department, was attended by administrators, chief executive officers, chief engineers, chief health officers, chief waste management officers, senior officials of the ministry, and directors of various projects of the concerned city corporations.
