The scheduled voting period for the 13th national parliament election and 2026 referendum has concluded nationwide, with polling taking place in a festive atmosphere.
Apart from a few isolated incidents, including grenade explosions in two districts, the overall voting process was peaceful. During the election, four individuals reportedly died due to health issues, and some political parties have raised complaints regarding the conduct of the election.
Polling began simultaneously at 7:30 am across 299 parliamentary constituencies and continued uninterrupted until 4:30 pm. However, voters still in line at any polling centre after the official closing time were allowed to cast their votes.
Following the conclusion of voting, the vote counting process will commence, with the nation now awaiting the results.
Nearly a year and a half after the July popular uprising that led to the fall of the Awami League government, citizens exercised their right to vote with the aim of establishing a democratically elected government.
In parallel, voters also cast their ballots in the referendum, indicating their stance with ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ on several proposed fundamental amendments to the constitution. A ‘Yes’ majority in the referendum will result in the implementation of these key constitutional reforms.
