Staff Reporter:
After a week of significant decline, the water level of the Jamuna River near Sirajganj town point has begun rising again from Friday. Officials attribute this increase to upstream hill run-off and rainfall.
According to the Sirajganj Water Development Board (BWDB), the Jamuna River’s water level at the Sirajganj point had decreased by 91 centimeters and at the Kazipur point by 89 centimeters between June 13 and June 19. However, over the last 24 hours ending Friday afternoon, the water level at the Kazipur point rose by 3 centimeters and at the Sirajganj point by 3 centimeters.
Despite the increase, the water is still flowing significantly below the danger level. At the Kazipur point, it is 321 centimeters below the danger mark, and at the Sirajganj station, it is 303 centimeters below the danger level.
Mokhlesur Rahman, Executive Engineer of the Sirajganj Water Development Board said that while the water level is rising due to hill run-off from upstream and rainfall, the increase is very minimal.
He assured that they are closely monitoring the overall situation and reiterated that there is currently no risk of flooding due to this increase in water.
