The water transport workers have called off the strike after the government-mediated meeting of owners and workers at the Ministry of Labour agreed to meet partial demands of the workers.

The meeting started at 4pm on Thursday and continued till the filing of the report in the evening.

Confirming the withdrawal of the strike, Syed Shahadat Hossain, convener of the Oikyo Parishad for the Protection of the Rights of Transport Workers, said the workers had called off the strike as the employers had agreed to pay them food allowances.

The transport workers started their strike from 12:01 am on Tuesday to press home their 11-point demand, including salary and allowances. The strike was called by eight organizations under the Bangladesh Shipping Workers Federation. (Source: Samakal)
