BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that they had demanded an electoral roadmap, not a resignation drama. He stressed that elections must be held by December.
He said: “We demanded an electoral roadmap, not a resignation drama. Elections must be held by December.”
He made the comments as a special guest at the “Establishing the Political Rights of the Youth” rally organized by BNP’s three affiliated bodies—Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal and Swecchhasebak Dal—held in Naya Paltan at 3:30pm on Wednesday.
Leaders and activists from various districts under the Dhaka, Sylhet, Faridpur and Mymensingh divisions took part in the rally.
Salahuddin Ahmed said: “Our only adversaries are the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina. They have undermined democracy. We want to ensure that no future autocracy arises. For this, all democratic forces must remain united.”
He also demanded that Ishraque Hossain be sworn in as mayor in accordance with the court’s verdict.
Referring to Sheikh Hasina’s past governance, he alleged: “She has been involved in widespread corruption. Economists have said that the embezzled amount could have funded the construction of 24 Padma Bridges.”
