Int’l Desk:

West Bengal (WB) Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee has said that she is ready to resign in the interest of the people.

After the rape and murder incidents of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College, junior doctors are protesting for safety and other demands at the workplace. As a result, medical services are being disrupted and people have been suffering.

To deal with this crisis, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee initiated a meeting with junior doctors at the state secretariat on Thursday (September 13). However, even after she waited for two hours, the doctors did not attend the meeting. After that, about the situation, Mamata said “she is ready to resign in the public interest and does not need power”.

“As you are in a movement, if the families ask us for an apology, then we have to answer that too. We will be ready for it,” said Mamata.

The possibility of a meeting of the agitating junior doctors with the state administration started around noon on Thursday. Doctors along with their delegation left for State Secretariat Nabanna by bus. Nabanna informed that “the number of doctors in the delegation was more than 30”.

Meanwhile, the doctors in yesterday’s meeting in Nabanna were adamant in their demand for live streaming. The administration was unwilling to accept that demand. After this episode lasted for more than 2 hours, Mamata opened her mouth. The Chief Minister of West Bengal said, “I have forgiven those who did not attend even after appearing at Nabanna Gate. I tried my best. I am willing to resign, I do not want the post of Chief Minister.”

Along with that, Mamata also called for Tilottama’s trial. “We have been insulted a lot on social networking sites. There has been a lot of ugliness and propaganda. General people did not know that there is a color in it,” she said.

Mamata also said, “I hope people understand that they don’t want justice, they want a chair. I am even willing to resign myself for the sake of people. I do not want the post of chief minister. I want people to get justice. Tilottama gets justice, common people get treatment.”

Meanwhile, earlier on Thursday, a virtual cold war was seen around the state secretariat between the two parties. On one side the protesting doctors ‍and on the other side the administration.

Although the administration told about a delegation of 15 doctors, the doctors kept their demands and said that they would keep 30 doctors in the delegation. Later Nabanna informed that there were more than 30 people in that delegation. A delegation of 30 doctors was then allowed to enter Nabanna for the meeting. However, Nabanna clarified that there will be no live streaming of the meeting. On the other hand, the doctors were adamant about that live streaming.

After waiting for more than 2 hours, the Chief Minister presented her speech. She, however, if the junior doctors want to hold a meeting, then the chief secretary and other officers of Nabanna should hold a meeting and listen to their statements. However, she is no longer in the discussion.
