The temperature has begun to drop in Nilphamari with the onset of Bangla month Paush, intensifying the cold each day.
According to the Dimla Meteorological Office, the temperature was recorded at 13°C at 6am on Monday.
Officer-in-Charge Abdur Sabur said the temperature has fallen compared to recent days, adding that fog and cold are likely to increase in the coming days.
Nilphamari Civil Surgeon Dr Abdur Razzak said the number of patients suffering from cold-related illnesses is rising in upazila hospitals, particularly among children and the elderly.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nairuzzaman said adequate winter clothes have been arranged for low-income residents. He added that distribution will be increased if necessary.
