Police have arrested a man allegedly for beating his wife to death with a hammer in the capital’s Bongshal area on Friday evening.

The victim, Maksuda Khanam, 30, was wife of Ibrahim, 37, and hailed from Gopalpur village in Enayetpur upazila of Sirajganj district

Bangshal Police Station sub-inspector Md Ferdous Alam confirmed the information, adding that the vicitm’s husband informed police after the killing and police detained him.

Later, Maksuda’s body was recovered and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for an autopsy, he added.

According to victim’s family members, Maksuda married Ibrahim two years ago in a family-arranged ceremony and the couple has a one-year-old daughter. Since their marriage, Ibrahim used to quarrel with Maksuda over minor issues.

Following the incident, the victim’s younger brother Mostafizur Rahman filed a murder case with Bangshal Police Station and investigations are underway to unveil the motive behind the killing.
