Women empowerment for unbiased society underscored

Speakers at a media conference on Sunday (Dec 28) said that it would not be possible for the country without active participation of women and keeping them aloof from development works. They have stressed for building a discrimination-free society to ensure women empowerment through strengthening grassroots level women leadership.

Empowerment does not mean that they would exercise powers without any commitment for welfare of the people. They must be industrious and courageous to establish their rights in a male-dominated society.

The speakers said “Proper use of technology in the field of education is a must for the full development of the potentials of the girl child”. They urged the government to ensure equal rights and status of women in a number of areas, including productive jobs, literacy and tertiary education, health and public offices, are still far behind the global targets.

Speakers further said, “All big achievements of the country will prove futile if the condition of general women doesn’t improve.” They called upon the grassroots level women leaders to work together for bringing an end to all sorts of discriminations and tortures being faced by the womenfolk in families, society and everywhere for smooth flourishing of women leadership.

They made these comments at a media conference held at CSS Ava Center under Sadar thana in the city. BINDU Nari Unnayan Sangathan, a Satkhira based non-government organisation arranged the conference aims to share important insights on women’s development, community empowerment and ongoing initiatives by BINDU for women.

Executive Director of BINDU Jannatul Mouwa presided over the function. Convener of Khulna Press Club Md Enamul Haque, Member Secretary of Khulna Press Club Rafiul Islam Tutul, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Other speakers also advocated for establishing gender equality to flourish women leadership at all levels for changing condition of the women folk, who constitutes half of the population, to ensure social justice, peace and overall national uplift.

A total of 30 journalists especially district correspondents from national print and electronic media and local journalists were present at the event.
