Masud Rana:

A court in Sirajganj on Tuesday sentenced a youth to life term imprisonment for killing his girlfriend.

The court also fined him Tk 20,000, in default; he will have to suffer six more months in Jail.

The convict is Rokonuzzaman Rokon, son of late Jel Hossain of Nayapara Baganbari in Sherpur upazila of Bogura district.

District and Sessions Judge Ikbal Hossain handed down the verdict, said Rafique Sarker, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court.

The court also sentenced four more persons named Maleka Khatun, Masur Rana, Farukh Hossain and Noor Mohammad to 2-year imprisonment and acquitted two more accused Taniya Khatun and Chameli Khatun as the allegation brought against the duo could not be proved.

The four persons, who got two-year imprisonment, have also been fined Tk 5,000 each, in default; they will have to suffer three more months in Jail.

According to the prosecution statement, the victim Rina Islam Hafiza got married off Zahurul Islam of Khas Khukshia village in Gandhail union of Kazipur upazila. Before the marriage, convicted Roknuzzaman Rokon had a love affair with Hafiza. Accused Maleka Khatun, Masud, Faruk Hossain and Nur Mohammad helped them to develop the relationship. On August 22, 2014, Hafiza left her house saying that she will go to see the purchased land in the Chhonka area of Sherpur upazila in Bogura district. Since then, she could not be found. Hafiza’s husband filed a complaint with Kazipur police station in this connection. On August 23, the police recovered Hafiza’s body from the brick kiln of Majnu Chairman in Gandail union.

After investigation, police submitted a charge sheet to the court accusing Roknuzzaman Rokon, Maleka Khatun, Md. Masud Rana, Faruk Hossain, Noor Mohammad, Tania Khatun and Chameli Khatun. After completion of lengthy testimony, the court delivered the verdict.
