The Coast Guard West Zone has safely rescued 12 fishermen after their boat suffered engine failure and drifted in the deep sea off Dublar Char in the Sundarbans.

The rescued vessel, FV Mayer Doya, along with all 12 crew members onboard, was towed to safety following an emergency response operation, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed in a press release on Tuesday, August 25.

According to official sources, the fishing boat lost propulsion at approximately 8:00 PM on Sunday, August 23, while operating nearly 12 nautical miles south of Dublar Char. Stranded at sea, the crew remained helpless until the boat drifted into mobile network range the following evening.

At around 6:30 PM on Monday, August 24, one of the fishermen managed to contact the boat’s owner, who immediately alerted the Coast Guard emergency helpline (16111).

In response, Coast Guard Station Dubla dispatched a rescue team to the deep-sea location, successfully locating the disabled vessel and securing all crew members without injury.

Upon arrival at shore, the fishermen were provided with first aid, essential meals, and necessary relief. Authorities confirmed that procedures are currently underway to hand over the fishermen and the boat to their respective owners.

The Coast Guard reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining vigilance and extending immediate assistance to maritime workers in distress across coastal regions.
