2 killed as bus hits parked truck on Sirajganj highway

Two people were killed as a passenger bus hit a halted disorder truck at the Talukdar Bazar area on the Dhaka-Uttaranchal highway in Kamarkhanda Upazila of Sirajganj district early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Md. Apon Islam, 26, of Gurgola Prannathpur village in Dinajpur Sadar Upazila and Md. Aslam, 40, of Tarash village in the same Upazila of Sirajganj district.

According to police and local sources, the accident took place at around 1.30am, when the driver and helpers were busy in repairing the malfunctioning truck parked on a side of the highway. At that time, a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Alisha Paribahan’ sped in and struck the repair crew, leaving them critically injured.

Locals rescued the victims and taken them to Sirajganj Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared them dead. The bodies were kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Md. Amirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamuna Bridge West Police Station, confirmed the deaths of the two individuals, stating that necessary legal actions are being taken following the incident and that bus has been seized for legal action.
