About six lakh people are stranded in Lakshmipur district due to incessant rains and tidal water of the Meghna river.
The upazila administrations of the district is removing the illegal dam of the canal with the help of the locals to solve the waterlogging. Apart from this, the administration continues to distribute dry food for water prisoners.
Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner Suraia Jahan confirmed the matter around 11:30 on Thursday (22 August). Flooding has been reported in Laxmipur Sadar, Ramgati, Kamalnagar, Raipur and Ramganj.
DC Suraia Jahan said, ‘About six lakh people are trapped in water due to flooding in the district. Dry food distribution program continues from Wednesday (August 21). Besides, we have 189 permanent and temporary cyclone shelters ready.”
