‘District administration is continuously monitoring the situation’

Although the flood situation in Cox’s Bazar has slightly improved, some low-lying areas in the district have been inundated once again.

In total, over 100,000 people in 15 unions across Chakaria, Ramu, and Pekua upazilas remain stranded due to the recent heavy rains and hill floods that caused flash floods in the region since last Monday.

According to district administration officials, 50,000 residents from six unions, including Gorjania, Kachchhpia, Rajarkul, and Fatekharkul in Ramu upazila, are still marooned from the previous floodings.

Azim Uddin, Chairman of Surajpur-Manikpur union parishad in Chakaria upazila, said that 50,000 people in the upazila are affected by the overflow from the Matamuhuri River. However, the river’s water level remains below the danger mark.

While vehicular movement on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf highway has resumed due to the receding floodwaters, travel remains disrupted on several regional roads, including Chakaria-Manikpur Road and Ramu Naikongchhari Road, due to continued flooding.

Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shahin Imran said that relief aid has been dispatched to flood-affected areas caused by heavy rains and tidal waters over the past week.

Upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) have been instructed to take necessary measures, and the district administration is continuously monitoring the situation, he added.
