A man was killed and about 20 others were injured in a clash between two groups allegedly following a dispute over Ludo game in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Saturday (August 1).

The deceased was Hamdu Mia, 50.

The clash took place between 9:30am and 12:30pm in Baigda Banderbari village under Harashpur union.

The injured, whose identities could not be confirmed immediately, were admitted to local hospitals.

According to police and locals, the violence stemmed from an altercation yesterday afternoon when Yasin, 12, son of Abul Hossain, allegedly slapped Nirab, 11, son of Hamdu Mia, during a dispute over a game of Ludo.

The argument escalated into a scuffle, during which Hamdu allegedly struck Yasin on the head with a stick, leaving him injured.

Following the incident, supporters of Abul Hossain allegedly attacked Hamdu’s house this morning, triggering a clash between the two groups armed with locally made weapons.

Hamdu was fatally injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon during the violence, police said.

Police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control after several hours of clashes.

MM Rakib Ur Raja, additional superintendent of police (Sadar Circle), said the situation is now under control.

“Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent any further violence. Legal proceedings are underway,” he added.
