TDS Desk:
The fire that broke out at the Gazi tyre manufacturing factory at Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj has been brought under control after 32 hours.
Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control at around 5:00 AM on Thuesday.
Approximately 175 people are still missing as a result of the incident.
But, Fire Service workers believe that the damage to the six-story building may cause it to collapse at any time.
Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Anwarul Haque, stated around 9:30 AM that while the fire was extinguished around 5:00 AM on Tuesday, rescue operations have not yet begun due to the building’s fragile condition.
“It is still very hot as there is a lot of combustible material still inside the building. Sometimes the flames flare up. A lot of smoke is still visible. The floors of the building were bent due to the long fire. Now the plaster inside and outside the building is crumbling. The building is also in danger of collapsing.”
Relatives of the missing were seen gathering in front of the factory, anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones who are still missing.
Criminals set fire to the factory, owned by former Awami League minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, around 9:00pm Sunday, hours after the arrest of former minister Gazi Golam Dastagir.
