A lawsuit has been filed Wednesday on (September 18) in Chattogram against 18 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and three former chief election commissioners, accusing them of orchestrating fake parliamentary elections in 2014, 2018, and 2024.

The complaint was brought by Md Ekramul Karim, former general secretary of the Chittagong Metropolitan unit of BNP and a 70-year-old resident of Chatteswari Road in the city’s Chawkbazar area.

The complaint claims that these elections were held without public participation and resulted in the declaration of unelected members of parliament.

The court has ordered the investigation to proceed, with a report expected in the coming weeks.

Karim alleged that the public was deprived of their voting rights during these elections, and unelected individuals were placed in positions of power.

Plaintiff’s lawyer, Advocate Kofil Uddin confirmed the filing of the case and said the case was filed based on the repeated holding of “fake parliamentary elections” and the manipulation of electoral outcomes to declare non-elected individuals as members of Parliament.

The key figures named in the case include three former Chief Election Commissioners — Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmad, KM Nurul Huda, and Kazi Habibul Awal — along with several other election commissioners and secretaries, including several election commissioners. Former bridge minister Obaidul Quader was also named as a “fake national parliament member.”
