The members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-12 recovered 26 kg of hemp from a private car and detained a drug trader in a raid at the western side of Bangabandhu Jamuna Bridge nearby Sayedabad intersection in Sirajganj.
The detainee was identified as Nasir Uddin, 38, son of late Abdul Aziz of Nayanpur village in Brahmanbaria district. Currently, he had been residing at 12/D, Jatrabari in South Sayedabad of the capital city Dhaka. RAB forces also seized the private car, which was used to supply the banned drugs, M Abul Hashem Sabuj, Company Commander of RAB-12 confirmed the matter to the media through a press briefing.
Tipped-off that, a consignment of hemp is being smuggled with a private car throughout Dhaka-North Bengal highway. Then, RAB set up a makeshift check-post on the western side of Jamuna Bridge and seized the illegal hemp after searching the private car. At that time, the elite forces detained Nasir Uddin in this connection.
During a primary interrogation, the detainee informed that, he had been carrying drug trade in different districts of the country including Sirajganj maintaining communication through internet technologies like Whatsapp and messenger.
The detainee was handed over to Bangabandhu Western Police Station and a case was lodged with the same PS in this connection.
