Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has been released from a jail in Dubai after being granted conditional bail following his arrest in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

A UAE court approved his bail petition on 27 July. He was released from custody on 30 July after completing the necessary legal formalities.

After his release, Benazir Ahmed said he had been freed on bail in accordance with the court’s order and was in good health. However, he declined to comment in detail on the ongoing legal proceedings.

Multiple sources in Dubai said the court imposed several conditions for his release. Under the bail terms, Benazir’s passport will remain in the court’s custody, and he is prohibited from leaving the UAE without prior court approval.

According to the sources, extradition-related documents submitted by the Bangladeshi authorities, along with other legal matters, were presented before the court. Following hearings involving both sides, the court decided to grant him conditional bail.

However, the Dubai authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the matter.

Officials at the Bangladesh Police Headquarters declined to comment when contacted.
