Teachers and employees of Sirajganj Polytechnic Institute on Sunday formed a human chain in front of its main gate at Fakirtola in Sirajganj Sadar upazila demanding payment of due salaries and allowances along with switching their jobs to revenue sector.

Sources said, teachers of 49 polytechnic institutes in the country have been staging demonstrations for the last few days demanding due salaries and allowances for 50 months and transferring of their jobs to revenue sector.

As a part of the countrywide programmes, Sirajganj Polytechnic Institute on Sunday staged several demonstrations including forming human chain to press home their demands. They also staged a sit in programme at the same venue.

Speakers at the programme said, the government undertook ‘Skills and Training Enhancement Project’ with the aim to build skill manpower and improve the technical education in the country. Its other objects were creating employment, removing poverty and unemployment from the society.

In this circumstance, about 1015 teachers were recruited against vacant positions for 49 institutions. Of them, 738 teachers are still in their duties. But, it is a painful matter that, those teachers have deprived of their salaries and allowances for about 50 months.  As a result, they along with their family members have been leading miserable lives due to lack of salaries.

After the human chain, the demonstrators submitted a memorandum to the principal of the institution.

Sirajganj Polytechnic Institute Instructor Sanaullah Haque, Junior Inspector Tanveer Ahmed, Junior Instructor Atia Khatun, Ataur Rahman, Ruhul Amin and Coordinator of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at the Polytechnic Institute Habibur Rahman among others were also present in the event.
