Over 500 students who failed to clear this year’s HSC and equivalent exams have entered the Secretariat, demanding a re-evaluation and correction of “errors” in their results.

The students gathered in front of the Ministry of Education at the Secretariat on Wednesday, chanting slogans. At around 2:45pm, they entered the Secretariat, defying police attempts to block them, demanding a re-release of their results.

One student said they were demanding fair HSC results without “discrimination” and justice for the attacks they had faced at various education boards.

Despite initial requests from army and police officers to stop, the protesting students continued their demonstration.

Eventually, when the army and police gave chase, the students scattered.

Army personnel and various law enforcement officers urged the protesting students at the Secretariat to cease their slogans and engage in peaceful discussions.

Earlier, on October 20, students who had failed the HSC and equivalent exams held a protest at the Dhaka Education Board, demanding the cancellation and re-issuance of results.

On that day, they confined the chairman and officials of the board for eight hours.

Notably, due to violence surrounding the quota reform movement, exams scheduled for July 18, 21, 23, 25, 28, and August 1 and 4 were postponed.

Finally, on September 11, a revised schedule was published by the government.

Following this, students demanded that the remaining exams not be held and that results be issued through subject mapping rather than automatic passing.

The authorities later decided not to conduct the remaining exams and implemented subject mapping for the unheld exams.
