UN Human Rights Commission to open office in Dhaka soon

Sharmeen S Murshid, adviser on social welfare and women and children affairs, said that there was a discussion about opening the office of the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Dhaka. The government is looking at the matter positively to protect the human rights of the people of Bangladesh.

He said this after a meeting with the visiting United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk at a hotel in the capital on Tuesday.

Sharmeen S Murshid said that the preliminary investigation of human rights violations conducted in July-August has a major role in the opening of the office in Dhaka.

Earlier, the five advisers of the interim government met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, who is visiting Dhaka, for lunch at Hotel Intercontinental.

Industry and Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid, Environment, Forest and Climate Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Ministry Adviser Md. Nahid Islam and Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar.
