A court here today sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry in the district’s Islampur upazila in 2022.

Judge of Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Muhammad Rafiqul Islam pronounced the verdict. The court also fined him Taka 50 thousand.

The convicted man is Md Ahsan Habib, 28, son of Md Azahar Ali of Rajnagar village in Islampur upazila of the district, a court official said.

Convict Ahsan Habib used to torture her wife Tithi Begum for dowry. As she failed to meet further demands, Ahsan strangled to death Tithi with a scarf on April 12, 2022.

After the murder, Abbas Ali Farazi, maternal uncle of Tithi Begum, filed a case with Islampur Police Station in this connection.
