Former Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Molla Jalal has been arrested by Shahbagh police under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act.
Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Khaled Mansur confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, adding that Molla Jalal was taken into custody from the capital’s Segunbagicha area on Monday and later sent to jail.
Mansur mentioned that a case was filed against Jalal four days ago under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act at Shahbagh police station, leading to his arrest. However, he did not provide further details about the allegations.
Molla Jalal was elected BFUJ president on July 13, 2018, alongside Shaban Mahmud, who became the secretary general.
