An elderly man was killed and a rickshaw-puller injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a onion-laden truck at Paltan intersection in the capital early Sunday.
The accident happened at about 5AM.
The deceased was Jakir Hossain, 60, of Feni. He was the executive officer of Mercantile Bank. He was on a rickshaw during the accident.
Police constable Sohrab, who brought Jakir Hossain to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said a bus belonging to ‘Unique Paribahan’ collided with a onion-laden truck in the area. An autorickshaw, carrying Jakir Hossain, was in between the two vehicles at that time. After collision, Jakir and the rickshaw-pullar were injured.
Critically injured Jakir was immediately taken to DMCH where the on-duty physician declared him dead at 6AM, Sohrab added.
