Mirpur Bangla College student Tapu murder; 3 to walk gallows

The tribunal today sentenced three accused to death for strangulating Mirpur Bangla College student Nurul Amin Tapu after abduction.

The convicts are – Md. Ariful Islam, Md. Imran Hossain, and Md. Yamin Molla.

Judge Masud Karim of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 announced the verdict on Tuesday (November 19).

On this day, the accused Ariful and Imran, who were detained in jail, were produced before the court. However, the other accused Yamin was not present as he was absconding.

After announcing the verdict, the court ordered the two accused to be sent to prison with a death sentence. Besides, the tribunal issued an arrest warrant along with a sentence warrant against the absconding accused Yamin.

On 2 January 2022, Mirpur Bangla College student Nurul Amin Tapu’s uncle lodged a GD at the Darussalam Police Station after Tapu went missing. After the GD, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Tk 1 crore from the victim’s uncle for his release. After that, he filed a kidnapping case in Darussalam police station. After the case, the zonal team of Detective Branch’s (DB) Mirpur Division started a shadow investigation. DB police arrested these three kidnappers two days after the incident.

During interrogation, they said that Tapu was called to Imran’s rented house in the Jahurabad area in ​​Mirpur Beribadh and abducted. Later, Tapu was strangled to death in Imran’s house for not getting the ransom. After that, the body of the victim was wrapped in a sack and thrown at the Beribadh in Jahurabad. The accused confessed to the murder and stated in the court under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
