Police arrested former Jhalkathi-1 (Rajapur Kathalia) Constituency MP Shahjahan Omar. He was arrested from Rajapur in Jhalkathi on Wednesday.

Shahjahan Omar was taken to the court around 1:15 pm on Thursday. Senior Judicial Magistrate Afroz Binte Shaheed of Kathalia Court ordered to send him to jail without a hearing as he had no lawyer on his side. The court said that the hearing will be held later.

Eyewitnesses said that the local BNP activists threw eggs and shoes at Shahjahan Omar on his way to the court.

Earlier, the convoy and house of Shahjahan Omar, former Member of Parliament of Jhalkathi-1 who joined Awami League from BNP, was attacked. His car was attacked on Wednesday night at his home and on his way back to his home in Rajapur from Dhaka at around 8:30 am on Thursday at a place called Pengri.

Additional Superintendent of Police Muhitul Islam said that former MP Barrister Shahjahan Omar has been arrested. There is a regular case against him at Kanthalia police station.
