Amid the political turmoil over the national election and reforms, July Shaheed Smrity Foundation General Secretary Sarjis Alam said that some new political parties will emerge in the country within the next two months ahead of the upcoming general election likely to be held either in late 2025 or early 2026.

While addressing a programme organised by the Jatiya Nagorik Committee in Panchagarh, Sarjis, also a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Friday, said that the Jatiya Nagorik Committee will never emerge as a political party rather it will work as a pressure group.

“We will establish the Jatiya Nagorik Committee as a national institution. It will play a role in creating leadership,” said the young student leader.

Emphasising the importance of quality leadership for the development of the country and its key institutions, he said that a leader must possess education, essential skills and knowledge to guide the nation in the right direction.

About the inception of new political parties, he said that the new political party will be formed with those involved in the July-August mass upsurge.

The leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee must relinquish their positions if they wish to join new political parties, he said.

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee will announce a movement if they observe the resurgence of fascist forces in the country, Sarjis said.

“The ousted former prime minister introduced a culture of lobbying in the country, and we must work to eliminate this practice,” he said.
