Dr Shafiqur Rahman, ameer of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has said despite the changing circumstances and overcoming all adversities, Chhatra Shibir is now the organization dearest to the student community.

Speaking at a workshop organized by Chhatra Shibir on Tuesday, Shafiqur, the chief guest, Chhatra Shibir was deprived of the opportunity to operate on campuses for the past 15 and a half years. “Even in madrasas, pathways for them to issue invitations in their name were blocked.

Claiming false propaganda was spread to distance Chhatra Shibir from the student community, portraying it as a negative organization, the Jamaat ameer said: “Members of Chhatra Shibir were picked up from mosques, educational institutions, or even their homes and turned over to the police.”

They thought they had obliterated Shibir, erasing its name and identity. However, the reality is that despite the changing circumstances and overcoming all adversities, Shibir is now the organization dearest to the student community. Ordinary students see Shibir as a platform for civilized, well-mannered, and talented students.”

Shafiqur added: “Students must not only focus on education and research but also strive for character development. This responsibility falls upon Chhatra Shibir. It is not something any other organization can accomplish.”

He continued: “Some organizations consider themselves prominent, but they lack programs for character-building. Instead, morally bankrupt organizations see Shibir as a rival.

“Some Islamic organizations have still not been able to establish their rightful position in all educational institutions. In such a scenario, Shibir must shoulder the responsibility of fostering character-building and intellectual excellence among the student community.”
