Students have initiated a “Shutdown Titumir” program, demanding the conversion of Government Titumir College into a university.

The program began on Tuesday with the suspension of classes and exams.

The night before, on Monday, the platform “Titumir Oikko” held a meeting to discuss the movement.

The students are demanding that within 48 hours, the college be converted into a university, and the administrative structure of the university be established, including the appointment of a vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellor.

If their demands are not met, they will block roads and railways in Mohakhali starting Thursday.

Students said that following their movement, the affiliation of the seven colleges with Dhaka University was revoked, leaving them without proper oversight. However, they remain firm in their demand for the conversion of Titumir College. If their demands go unmet, they plan to proceed with the road and railway blockades in Mohakhali.

In an earlier move on January 7, students hung a banner reading “Titumir University” at the college’s main gate as part of their ongoing campaign.
