BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the use of bullets to suppress movements or any political programme must be stopped forever.

“Sheikh Hasina using the police and shotguns killed people in this country and this must never happen again,” he said after placing a wreath at BNP founder and ex-president Ziaur Rahman’s grave  along with the leaders of Munshiganj district BNP on Monday.

Rizvi strongly criticised ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and accused her of being desperate to reinstate her “barbaric rule” in Bangladesh.

“We must ensure free, fair elections and the rule of law in the country. Such barbaric rule, like that of Sheikh Hasina, should never be brought back to this country,” he said.

“She (Hasina) is taking shelter in a neighbouring country and hatching conspiracies. Unable to get  people’s support, she has announced hartal (strike) and blockade programme virually,” Rizvi said.

“Where are your Chhatra League, Jubo League and terrorist groups? Those who killed people like birds with bullets, killed children, and killed BNP leaders and activists. The people of Bangladesh will no longer tolerate you. They want the trial of all your wrongdoings,” he added.

Such reforms must be made that no one can ever take away people’s rights nor take away the freedom of expression.

“We have some advisers who become annoyed when the government is criticised, and make various comments. If they can’t tolerate criticism, they should quit their advisory positions and form a political party. If the price of rice increases today, should we not criticise? Should we not talk about the deterioration of law and order? Should we not talk about the rising prices of daily commodities?” Rizvi asked.

“The market syndicate is still active, and I do not see the government’s sincerity in preventing it. Law and order is not improving, and theft, robbery, and murder have increased,” the BNP leader said.

Munshiganj District BNP Convener Mirzanur Rahman Sinha, Member Secretary Mohiuddin Ahmed were present among others.
