The High Court has annulled the government’s decision to appoint 6,531 candidates as assistant teachers in government primary schools in Dhaka and Chittagong divisions.

The verdict was delivered on Thursday by the High Court bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Shikdar Mahmudur Raji.

The court directed the authorities to conduct a fresh recruitment process based on merit.

Earlier, on November 19, the High Court had suspended the decision to issue appointment letters to the 6,531 candidates selected in the third phase of recruitment for assistant teachers.

The suspension was issued due to concerns over the application of a quota system in the recruitment process. The court also issued a rule seeking further clarification on the matter.

The final results of the third phase of recruitment were published on October 31, listing 6,531 successful candidates from Dhaka and Chittagong divisions, excluding the three hill districts. The Directorate of Primary Education had released the results on its official website.

Previously, on May 28, the High Court had imposed a six-month suspension on the recruitment process, including the viva examinations, for assistant teacher positions in these divisions.

However, the Appellate Division later dismissed this suspension order, allowing the Directorate of Primary Education to proceed with the oral exams.

Additionally, the High Court had ordered an investigation into allegations of question leaks during the written examination for this recruitment, following reports published in the media.
