A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, his wife May Hla Prue, and their children Ushwe Hai, Thowai Shai Wang, and May May Khing Venus.
The order was passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Ghalib on Thursday, following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On the same day, ACC Assistant Director Md Abdul Malek filed a petition requesting a travel ban on the former minister and his family members.
Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir argued in favour of the request.
The ACC application stated that Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing is under investigation for allegedly abusing his power to amass assets worth crores of taka.
Citing sources, the ACC noted that Ushwe Sing and his family are attempting to leave the country, which could hinder a fair investigation. Therefore, the commission sought an immediate travel ban to facilitate the inquiry.
