Senior officials at Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh have vowed to seize funds in the UK from Britain’s former Treasury minister Tulip Siddiq as part of their initiative to repatriate the money which was siphoned off from Bangladesh by her aunt Sheikh Hasina’s despotic regime.

Akhtar Hossain, the ACC’s director general, told British newspaper The Telegraph that they have started liaising with ‘multiple countries’ over investigations into the family of Sheikh Hasina, the former prime minister of Bangladesh.

Investigators from the ACC had requested information from between 10 and 12 countries as part of investigations into Hasina and with her family.

It remains unclear as to which countries have been approached for information regarding inquiries into Siddiq.

“Our teams are working to recover funds that were siphoned off [abroad]. We are assured of assistance from the UK, the European Union and other countries,” a spokesman said.

During late January, officers from Britain’s National Crime Agency spent several days in Dhaka aiding ACC investigators with their inquiries.

Tulip was forced to resign as City minister of Britain after facing questions over her property affairs and links to her aunt’s authoritarian regime in Bangladesh.

Sir Laurie Magnus, the British prime minister’s ethics adviser, also found that she had inadvertently misled the public over a flat gifted to her by a man linked to the Awami League led by Hasina.

Tulip was also reportedly involved in the £4 billion embezzlement of funds from a nuclear power plant deal with Russia, along with other family members.
