A man and his niece were killed after being run over by a speeding bus in the Swarnamati Bridge area of Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat on Friday, police said.

The victims were identified as Ramzan Ali alias Badsha, 40, and his niece Khushi Akhter, 24, from Diagram Paikartari area in Kaliganj upazila.

Locals said that Ramzan Ali was traveling towards Lalmonirhat with his niece on a motorcycle when the accident.

A bus from Nabil Paribahan, traveling from Dhaka, struck them, leaving Ramzan Ali dead on the spot and Khushi severely injured.

Khushi Akhter later succumbed to her injuries while being taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Ali Akbar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Aditmari Police Station, said that the bus involved in the incident has been seized, but the driver has fled the scene.
