Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that there is no cause for concern regarding Bangladesh’s border security. “The border is secure. There is no reason to panic,” he told reporters on Saturday after inaugurating a new Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) battalion in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar.
He reiterated that all Bangladeshis remain safe as long as they do not cross into neighboring countries. Emphasizing a firm stance on border security, he cautioned that if Bangladeshis are harmed after trespassing into India, BGB will respond strictly to any unauthorized entry into Bangladesh.
Highlighting efforts to prevent border violence, he said that reducing cross-border killings to zero remains a top priority for BGB. He acknowledged heightened tensions along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border due to internal conflicts in Myanmar, which made the establishment of a new battalion in Ukhia essential.
The newly formed battalion will enhance border surveillance and security, prevent illegal infiltration, curb drug smuggling—including yaba and crystal meth—and combat transnational crimes, including militancy and terrorism. It will also safeguard the lives and property of residents along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
