Muezzin found dead in Thakurgaon

Police recovered the body of a muezzin from a corn field of Ranisankail upazila in Thakurgaon district on Saturday.

The deceased, Khairul Islam, 60, son of Ashiruddin, a resident of Bhobonandapur village in the upazila, is a Muezzin of a mosque at Nekmorod Bazar.

According to locals, Khairul used to work as a night guard at Husking Mill besides working as a muezzin. He went out from his home on Friday night and did not return home on Saturday morning. Later, his family members started looking for him but failed.

Locals spotted his body lying on the land of a corn field and informed police.

Being informed, a team of police recovered his body from the spot and sent it to Thakurgaon General Hosptial morgue for a post-mortem examination, said Ranisankail Police Station officer-in-charge Arshedul Haque.

His arms and legs were tied, and there were marks of beatings on various parts his body, the police official said.

The main reason behind the death of Khairul could be known after getting the post-mortem report, the OC added.
