Tk 8 lakh realized from 2 kilns as fine

A mobile court in a drive on Monday demolished an illegal brick kiln in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj.

The mobile court also fined two other brick kiln owners at Tk 8 lakh for running brick kilns without proper approval and licenses.

The drive was conducted under the leadership of Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Khadija Khatun.

In the drive, the chimney of Messrs Master and Sons brick kiln was demolished completely with a Veku machine (excavator) on charge of operating the brick kiln without legal permission and polluting the environment by burning firewood.

The sources said, fine of Tk 5 lakh was collected from the owner of M/s Khan brick kiln and Tk 3 lakh from M/s Khandaker brick kiln for running illegal brick kilns without licenses and environmental clearance.

Assistant Director of the Sirajganj Environment Department, Tuhin Alam, said that “The drive was conducted as part of the illegal brick kiln demolition drive according to the High Court’s directives. It will continue in the future.”

He further said, Environment Department in collaboration with district administration and police administration is committed to evict all kinds of unauthorized brick kilns in the district to protect local environment and public health.
