Lalmonirhat Correspondent:

A 56-year-old man was handed over to the police after being beaten by locals for allegedly attempting to rape a schoolgirl in Sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Sunday.

The man identified as Meher Ali hailed from Gokunda village in the upazila, police said.

Mohammad Nurnabi, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Meher tried to violate the schoolgirl while she was on her way to a farm in Kashirjhar area of the upazila.

Hearing screams of the girl, local people caught Meher and beat him mercilessly before handing him over to police.
