During the Eid journey, increased vehicle pressure on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway has resulted in 48,335 vehicles crossing the Jamuna Bridge in the last 24 hours, generating a toll revenue of Tk33,852,900.

The executive engineer of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority’s Jamuna Bridge site office, Ahsanul Kabir Pavel, confirmed the information to Jago News on Saturday morning.

Officials related to the highway said that vehicle pressure has further increased.

As Friday was a government holiday, the pressure on the highway began to rise, particularly from Elenga to Bangabandhu Bridge, where a 13.5-kilometre stretch has been experiencing heavy traffic since last night, the officials said.

However, vehicle pressure is expected to increase further from Saturday afternoon, they added.

The Jamuna Bridge authorities reported that from Thursday midnight to Friday midnight, a total of 48,335 vehicles crossed the bridge.

Among them, 30,398 vehicles were heading toward the northern region, generating a toll of Tk19,098,550.

On the other hand, 17,937 vehicles were Dhaka-bound, contributing Tk14,754,350 in toll revenue.

Furthermore, the bridge authorities mentioned that on Friday, 13,108 more vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge compared to Thursday.

Consequently, an additional Tk7,315,400 was collected in toll revenue, the authorities said.

Ahsanul said that during the Eid journey, a total of 18 toll booths — nine on each side — are in operation for vehicle crossings.

Among them, two separate booths on each side have been designated specifically for motorcycles, he said.

Efforts are being made to ensure the continuous movement of vehicles on the bridge, and toll collection has not been halted so far, he added.
