2 killed in Naogaon clash

Two people were killed and ten others injured in a clash between two groups over felling trees in Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon district on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Shariful islam, 55, son of Osir Ali and Azizul Haque, 55, son of Afser Ali of Budhuria Dangapara in the upazila.

Quoting witnesses, Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Niamatpur Police Station, said Saiful Islam and Lal Chan of the village had been at loggerheads over the ownership of some trees located between the boundary lands of the two groups.

On Wednesday, Saiful felled a Mahogany tree on his side, triggering an altercation.

On Thursday morning, both Lalchan and Saiful locked into a heated argument when Lalchan asked him to encircle his land with bamboo sticks, triggering a clash.

At one stage, Lalchan along with Kashem Hazi and 20-22 others, equipped with sharp weapons, stabbed Saiful and ten others, leaving Saiful dead on the spot and ten others injured.

Among the injured, 4 to 5 victims were taken to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.

Police arrested ten people from the spot.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
