A farmer was killed and 12 others were injured in a clash between the people of two villages in Shahzapur upazila of Sirajganj district on Tuesday last.

The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 45, a farmer of Bagdhonail village under remote Rupbati uinon of the upazila.

The injured were admitted to different hospitals and clinics including Shahzadpur upazila health complex. The condition of two persons is stated to be critical, hospital sources said.

Aslam Uddin, Officer in Charge of Shahzadpur police station said, people of Kuliarchar and Bagdhonail village locked in the clash over an altercation centering a trifling matter. Both the clashing groups attacked and chased each other along with sticks, iron rods and different kinds of sharp weapons. Due to their attack, at least 13 persons were injured. Of them, the critically injured Nazrul Islam succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was lodged with Shahzadpur police station in this connection. But, no one was arrested until filing the report on Wednesday evening, the OC added.
