‘National Nutrition Week-2025’ inaugurated in Sirajganj

Keeping in mind the theme of ‘Nutritious food for all, from children to the elderly,’ ‘National Nutrition Week-2025’ has started in Sirajganj like other parts of the country.

Ganapati Roy, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) in Sirajganj formally inaugurated the programme organized by District Civil Surgeon’s Office the premises of Sirajganj Collectorate on Wednesday (May 28).

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Dr. Md. Nurul Amin, Civil Surgeon in Sirajganj.

Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Julia Akhter, Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation Mohammad Faruk Ahmed, Deputy Director of District Information Office Mohammad Ali, Medical Officer of Family Planning Department Dr. Md. Parvez Sheikh and President of Sirajganj Press Club Md. Harun or Rashid Khan Hasan among others were also present at the event.

During his speech, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganapati Roy said, “Malnutrition is not just a health problem; it is a social and economic challenge. Ensuring proper nutrition of the children should be our main goal to build a healthy nation.”

He called on the government, private organizations, local public representatives and the media to play a more effective role in raising awareness on this issue.

After the programme, a colorful procession was brought out, which started from the Collectorate building premises and ended in front of the Civil Surgeon’s office after marching the main roads. Health department officials and employees, representatives of various NGOs and school students participated in the procession.

Later, a discussion meeting was also held in the hall room of the Civil Surgeon’s Office, where speakers emphasized on balanced diet and awareness raising for children, women and the elderly.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Nurul Amin self presided over the meeting.

The speakers at the discussion meeting said that, nutrition is essential for the growth of children, as well as for pregnant women and the elderly. Due to lack of proper nutrition, a large population of the country is suffering from various complications, which is hampering national development.

The organizers said that there are plans to organize nutrition camps, seminars, food exhibitions and mass-awareness activities in different upazilas of the district during the National Nutrition Week.
