BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has congratulated the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for his statesmanship role during a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus.

“We, the entire nation, observed with great pleasure that the chief adviser gave his consent and they (Yunus, Tarique) fixed the election date in the middle of February next year,” Fakhrul said on Friday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, the chief adviser and the BNP acting chairman held a meeting at The Dorchester hotel on Park Lane in London to fix the country’s political future.

In an instant reaction on outcome of the meeting, Fakhrul, while talking to reporters at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan Office in Dhaka, said, “I would like to say there are many political parties and leaders in Bangladesh and Tarique Rahman has proven he is the best of them who possesses all statesmanship qualities.”

Claiming that the entire nation was worried about the meeting, but Tarique became successful, Fakhrul said, “I am on behalf of BNP and all its leaders and activists, extending heartiest congratulations to Tarique Rahman.

Fakhrul described the outcome of the meeting as good news for Bangladesh and said that it was much-cherished news for the nation.

He also thanked the chief adviser, saying that both the top persons have shown a way to take the nation forward through their skill and experience.
