Muggers snatched away Tk55 lakh from an official of mobile financial service provider Nagad at Kuada Jamtala intersection on Jashore–Monirampur road in Jashore district on Tuesday.

The muggers, riding on a motorcycle, intercepted a private car carrying Rabiul Islam, manager of Nagad’s Jashore Branch, around 9am and looted the cash money from him.

Robiul had received the money from Nagad’s accountant Kazi Mominur Islam and was on his way to Monirampur sub-branch to hand over the amount to another official, Abu Sajid.

When the vehicle reached the Jamtala intersection, the armed robbers blocked its path with their motorcycles, smashed the windows of the car, dragged Robiul out, assaulted him, and fled with the bag full of cash.

Robiul said that he was attacked and sustained injuries and the vehicle was also damaged during the robbery.

He said preparations are underway to take legal action regarding the incident.

Officer-in-Charge of Monirampur Police Station, Babulur Rahman Khan, said efforts are underway to arrest the culprits and recover the looted money.
