Dengue: 1 dead, 352 new cases reported in 24hrs

One more death and 352 fresh cases were reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Saturday morning.

With the figures, the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh rose to 31 and the caseload reached 7,429 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Saturday’s (21 June) caseload is the highest recorded in a single day so far this year. The previous highest was 288 on 11 June, followed by 284 on 19 June.

In recent fatalities, one was reported in Chattogram division (out of city corporation), the DGHS said.

Of the new cases, Barishal division (outside the city corporation) alone reported 167 new cases, Chattogram division (outside the city corporation) recorded 76 cases, Dhaka division (outside the city corporations) reported 15 infections, while 43 cases were detected in Dhaka South City Corporation, 19 in Dhaka North City Corporation.

Khulna division (outside the city corporation) and Rajshahi division (outside the city corporation) reported eight and 24 cases, respectively.

Currently, 882 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.

Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people.

According to the DGHS, there were 1,01,214 dengue cases and 1,00,040 recoveries in the same year.
