Six more deaths were reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Thursday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 139 this year.

In the 24-hour span, 1,492 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, raising the total caseload to 48,430 in 2026.

Among the fatalities, which included four men, two were reported in Khulna division and one each in Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest cases, 178 patients were admitted to hospitals in Barishal division, 202 in Chattogram division, 327 in Dhaka division, 81 under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 151 under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 284 in Khulna division, 80 in Mymensingh division, 122 in Rajshahi division, 54 in Rangpur division, and 13 in Sylhet division.

DGHS data shows that men account for 62.3% of infections so far this year, while women represent 37.7%.

According to official data, Bangladesh recorded 102,861 dengue cases and 413 deaths from the mosquito-borne disease in 2025.

In 2024, the country reported 101,214 dengue infections and 575 deaths.

The previous year (2023) saw the country’s worst outbreak on record, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 hospitalisations.
